Important Factors to Consider if You Are Thinking of Installing a Ceiling Fan
There are many things to love about a ceiling fan. They are a great cost-effective, and eco-friendly way to cool off a room. However, if you are thinking about installing a ceiling fan, keep reading to learn about the factors you should consider. If you have questions about your installation, or you would like to hire a residential electrician to make sure it is installed safely and correctly, contact Sonner Electric at 661-728-0126.
It’s Important to Choose the Right Blade Size
If you want to get maximum cooling without sending every piece of paper in the room flying, should you install larger or smaller blades? You might think that larger blades would send everything scattering, but the truth is that the larger the blade is, the better the cooling and the less ruffling of papers. Note that the number of blades is not important and will not significantly impact the performance of the fan.
Make Sure You Choose the Right Size and Location for the Space in Which It’s Being Installed
Generally speaking, a ceiling fan should be installed between seven and nine feet about the floor, ten to twelve inches below the ceiling, and at least 18-24 inches away from a wall. For a room that is 144-square-feet, we recommend a 42-inch fan, a 44-inch fan for rooms of up to 225 square feet, and a 52-inch fan for rooms up to 400 square feet. If your room is longer than 18 feet, then we recommend getting more than one fan.
Consider Which Features Will Best Meet Your Needs
If you choose a model that is easy to operate, then you are likely to get a lot more use out of it than you would if you chose a fan that you would struggle with every time. Consider the light intensity, the speed of the fans, how loud it is when it is operated, the ease of using the pull chains, and whether or not it comes with remote controls.
Be Realistic About Price
Everyone wants to get a great deal but remember that the best value isn’t always the cheaper option. You are looking for the best price on a fan that meets your needs. Is it worth it to spend a little more to get a fan that’s quieter, offers more speeds, has a longer warranty, and offers smoother operation? It is up to you to decide that.
Safe Installation is Essential
We strongly recommend that you have your ceiling fan installed by professionals. This is important to make sure that the fan runs as long as possible, that the warranty is not voided, and, most importantly, that your fan is safe to use. Remember that fans can weigh as much as 50 pounds, and every installed fan should have its own UL-listed electrical box designed for ceiling fans.
